IRIS Corporation, un groupe qui monte !

Formé à Albi il y a dix ans, ce groupe mélangeant musique orientale et rock, porté par des textes sur la religion et la spiritualité (notamment orientale), a sorti deux albums et noué des contacts à l'étranger: USA, Espagne, Belgique, Royaume-Uni... Rencontre avec son chanteur, JP Ferrand.

Premiers contacts avec la musique:

J'ai commencé la musique à l'âge de 7 ans, du chant choral. J'étais déjà attiré par des groupes ''bruyants'' Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Pink Floyd et plus tard Hendrix et Cream. J'ai donc logiquement commencé la guitare à 11 ans. Je suis choisis pour intégrer un premier groupe à 13 ans, la moyenne d'âge était de 19!!

Premiers projets:

Après divers projets, je monte un nouveau groupe, Korrigans (influencé par les Doors, Guns N' Roses et Led Zeppelin) où je fus chanteur. Le groupe a beaucoup tourné, il a eu à son actif 300 concerts sur 5 ans (1987-1991) mais n'a pu sortir d'album car il chantait en anglais. Ensuite, je fais mon petit bout de chemin en solo pendant 7 ans, j'ai sorti trois albums comme ça. J'ai rencontré Thibaut Gluchowski alors que j'assurais un remplacement dans un groupe de country d'un de mes élèves. J'étais à la basse et Thibaut à la batterie, on s'est bien amusés et le courant et vite passé, on a alors décidé de monter notre groupe.

IRIS Corporation :

C'est ainsi qu'IRIS voit le jour en 2001. Nous avons donc très vite répété, composé et enregistré l'album, intitulé Head On The Floor, en 6 mois. Tout s'est enchaîné très vite, l'album est sorti en 2002, mais on a aussi enchaîné les galères, le manager est parti au moment de lancer l'album et RTL2 nous a fait faux bond quant à la diffusion de quelques titres de l'album.... On a du assurer très vite, malgré cela, l'album a été bien reçu, des critiques positives sont venues d'un peu partout, en France comme ailleurs. On a fait quelques concerts mais comme nous n'avons pas de tourneur, il est difficile d'avoir un rythme. On a été programmés par exemple au Bolegason de Castres ou au festival Rock In Tarn. Nous avançons à notre rythme, avons changé plusieurs fois de bassiste et avons ajouté Corporation au nom du groupe avant de sortir un single et un deuxième album en 2008 et 2009. Comme j'ai enregistré quelques groupes dans mon home studio, le son de A New Saint Session est meilleur que celui du premier. Encore une fois, l'accueil est très positif, un grand nombre d'articles et de chroniques tombent, même si les ventes ne décollent pas forcément (téléchargement oblige) on est suivi sur Youtube et les réseaux sociaux. Toujours de bons retours à l'étranger . Deux morceaux figurent dans le court métrage Frenchboy du scénariste/dessinateur de BD albigeois Christophe Bec. Nous faisons marcher nos contacts et cherchons un nouveau bassiste et un tourneur car nous allons sortir un troisième album en 2013.

IRIS Corporation, a group that's going places!

Formed in Albi ten years ago, this band, mixing oriental music and rock, and incorporating lyrics on religion and spirituality (notably oriental), has released two albums and has made many overseas contacts in the USA, Spain, Belgium, and Britain... We met with its singer, JP Ferrand

First introduction to music :

I started choral singing at the age of 7. I was already into the « noisy groups », Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Pink Floyd and later Jimi Hendrix and Cream. So logically I started to play the guitar at 11. I first became a member of a band at 13, the average age was 19!!

First projects :

After various projects, I started up a new band called Korrigans (influenced by The Doors, Guns N'Roses and Led Zeppelin) as its lead singer. This band toured a lot, we did about 300 concerts in 5 years (1987-1991) but were not able to release an album because lyrics were in english. Then I went solo for 7 years and released 3 albums. I met Thibaut Gluchowski when I replaced someone in a

country band that one of my pupils played in. I was playing bass guitar and Thibaut was playing drums, we had a lot of fun and got on like a house on fire. So we decided to start our own band.

IRIS Corporation :

That's how IRIS was born in 2001. We started to rehearse very quickly, composed and recorded an album called « Head On The Floor » in 6 months. Everything went very quickly, the album was released in 2002, but we also experienced some real struggles. The manager left us during the launch of the album and RTL2 let us down after promising to give some of our tracks airplay. We had to get back on track. Despite everything, the album was well received, with positive

reviews from France and abroad. We played some gigs but it was difficult to keep the impetus going with no booking agent. We played, for example, at the Bolegason in Castres and in the Rock In Tarn Festival. We were advancing at our own pace but we had to change bass player several times. We added 'Corporation' to the name of the band just before releasing a single and a second album in

> 2008 and 2009. As I now have my own recording studio, the sound of « A New Saint Session » is far better than the first album. Once again, it was well received, with the publication of a great number of articles and reviews. Even if sales don't necessarily take off (illegal downloads), many people follow us on YouTube and other social networks. We always receive good feedback from abroad. Two songs have been used in « Frenchboy », short film by Christophe Bec, a cartoonist and film director from Albi. We keep in touch with all our contacts and at present we're searching for a bass player and a booking agent with a view to a third album in 2013.

Riffs poderosos y sabores orientales. Así podríamos calificar en pocas palabras al grupo sobre el cual trata este artículo. IRIS Corporation es una banda francesa formada por Thibaut Gluchowski, Will De La Perez y John Iris. Llegaron a mi atención hace ya un tiempo cuando recibí una solicitud de amistad a través de YouTube y lo cierto es que quedé bastante impresionado con lo que pude escuchar ahí.

Como ya decía se aprecia una fuerte influencia oriental en algunos de sus temas y es que el mismo grupo define su estilo como “World Rock”, esto es, rock extrapolado más allá de la cultura occidental. Hay temas para todo, desde “A New Saint Session” con riffs muy al estilo de Rage Against the Machine hasta “Highest Love” que incorpora lo ya comentados temas arabescos. Entre otras influencias se destacan Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Massive Attack,...

Ideológicamente es un grupo concienciado con la naturaleza y con el mal que causa el progreso poco sostenible de la humanidad. Sostienen que el progreso es importante pero no a cualquier precio, idea con la que estoy de acuerdo.

La voz de John Iris me recuerda bastante a la de Matt Bellamy (Muse) y destaca también el bajista que a falta de guitarrista rítmico se sobra y se basta para dar cuerpo y sostener las canciones.

A día de hoy tienen editado un disco titulado “A New Saint Session”. Es un disco completo y que desde luego no se encierra en ningún único estilo, cada canción presenta elementos que la hacen destacar sobre el resto. El disco se puede escuchar gratuita e íntegramente en su página web y puede ser adquirido desde 4,99€ la versión digital y 8,90€ la copia física.

Powerful riffs and oriental flavours. These few words could describe the band in this article. IRIS Corporation is a French group consisting of Thibaut Gluchowski, Will De La Perez and John Iris. They caught my attention some time ago when I received a friend request on YouTube and I was

really impressed by what I heard.

As I mentioned earlier, a strong oriental influence in some songs can be perceived, so much so that the band defines its style as "World Rock", and that's pretty much it! Rock extrapolated beyond the western culture. There are themes for all tastes, from the riffs of « A New Saint Session » in the style of Rage Against the Machine to « Highest Love » which incorporates and embellishes these already stated themes. Influences that break through are Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Massive Attack...

Ideologically, the band makes us aware of the nature and misfortune caused by the unsustainable progress of humanity. They claim that progress is important but not at all costs, an idea I subscribe to.

The voice of John Iris reminds me of Matt Bellamy (Muse) and it also must be noted that the bass player, in spite of the absence of a rhythm guitar, gives more than enough body and support to the songs.

To date, they have released an album entitled « A New Saint Session ». It is a complete work which does not lock itself into only one style; every song contains elements that make it different from the other. The album can be listened to in it's entirety for free on their web page and purchased for

4,99€ in digital version and 8,90€ for the CD.

Ils ont retenu mon attention il y a déjà quelque temps grâce à une demande d'amitié sur YouTube et il est certain que je suis resté assez impressionné avec ce que j'ai pu écouter là.

Idéologiquement, c'est un groupe qui fait prendre conscience de la nature et du malheur que lui causent les progrès peu durable de l'humanité. Ils soutiennent l'importance du progrès mais pas à n'importe quel prix, une idée à laquelle j'adhère.

La voix de John Iris rappelle assez celle de Matt Bellamy (Muse) et il faut aussi noter que le bassiste, malgré l'absence d'un guitariste rythmique, suffit pour donner du corps et soutenir les chansons.
